Wroclaw routs Zaglebie 56-0 to stay on top of South Division standings

The Wroclaw Giants won their fifth game in a row on Sunday afternoon, dismantling the Zaglebie Steelers Interpromex 56-0 on the road in Bedzin. Jamal Schulters scored four touchdowns for the Giants, who will now return home for their last three games of the regular season.

One way or another, the road to the National Stadium in Warsaw will go through Wroclaw. On June 8, the Giants will host their in-city rivals, the Devils, in a game that will break the tie at the top of the South Division standings. A win for the Giants would virtually wrap up the division for them, while a Devils win would mean that point differential could come into play if the Devils don't manage to win both of their final two games (one of which comes against the Warsaw Eagles).

The Giants scored exactly 14 points in each of the four quarters against the Steelers. Their first score was a defensive one, coming on an interception return by Kamil Ruta. Mark Philmore followed that up by finally breaking through for his first touchdown of the season, a 15-yard reception from Bartosz Dziedzic. The two connected again for a score early in the second quarter.

Following the big game with the Devils at the Olympic Stadium, the Giants will host the Steelers and then Kozly Poznan to finish out their schedule. The Steelers, now 2-6, will play both of their remaining games on the road. They will face one of the two teams they beat this season, the AZS Silesia Rebels, in Chorzów on June 9 before finishing out the year with a rematch against the Giants.
